Zayra is an authentic, vintage Boucherouite rug in the size 108 x 195 cm, handwoven by Berber women in Morocco with a strong sense of both pattern and materials. The name means “floral” or “radiant” – and fits perfectly with the rug’s expression, where diamonds and floral shapes grow in a dense, rhythmic pattern.

The rug's color palette is rich and intense: deep ruby reds, indigo, mustard yellow, lavender, black and cream create contrasting fields and a patchwork-like look. At the top and bottom, it is finished with horizontal stripes in warm earth tones and dark shades – like a visual frame that holds the whole together.

Maintenance

Vacuum the carpet regularly and take it outside and shake it once in a while. Stains are removed by soaking up the stain as quickly as possible with a cloth and then dabbing the stain with a damp cloth. The rug is made from scraps of different materials.

The name Boucherouite comes from Bouts de chiffons, which means remnants of fabric. Many types of materials are used in a Boucherouite rug: cotton, nylon, wool, lace, tulle, etc. Each piece of fabric is fixed piece by piece with a special technique. This technique is passed down from mother to daughter through generations. The hallmark of Boucherouite rugs is that they are colorful and thought provoking.
