Gnawa by Yann Chatelin

Moroccan poster from 100% recycled paper. The posters are of high quality and come in a careful and protective triangular box.
Gnawa is a type of music that originates from Morocco among other West African countries. The music is rhythmic and festive. In Morocco, it is the men who play Gnawa music with various African instruments, among others. qraqeb, which is a hand cymbal made of metal. On the poster we see a Moroccan man playing Gnawa music with the instrument qraqeb. He is wearing the Moroccan Fez hat, which a great many Moroccan men wear; especially on festive occasions. The artist has drawn Berber characters with thick strokes, which is something he often paints on his artworks. On this poster is written Gnawa in his very own handwriting inspired by the calligraphic font. The poster has a vibrant yellow background color and radiates joy, celebration and life!

About the artist

The young street art artist Yann Chatelin lives in Berlin, but was born in the port city of Calais in France in 1980. He has spent 15 years in Morocco, where he lived from 2005-2020. He became aware of graffiti at the age of 15. He believes that technology replaces individual reflection and creativity. In his works, he reflects on the disappearance of the change of hand in favor of digital writing, which has unfortunately begun to take over. Everything handwritten is unique, it is like a print, a mirror of the author's personality. So for Yann, his art is a way for him to express himself creatively and leave his mark via his own handwritten words and phrases inspired by the calligraphic font.
