The story behind

The story behind these handmade silver metal trays from Morocco begins in the old souks, where metalwork has been part of the craft tradition for centuries. Especially in cities like Fez and Marrakech, metalsmiths (called meal) refined the art of engraving, hammering and shaping metal into applied art with deep symbolic meaning.

These trays are made from silver-toned brass, a material that is both durable and easy to shape. Each tray is hand-engraved with traditional geometric patterns inspired by Islamic art and zellige tiles – the detailed mosaics that adorn riads and mosques throughout Morocco. The repeating star motifs symbolize harmony and eternity, while the interwoven patterns represent the connection between the earthly and the spiritual.

The trays are not only functional, but tell a story of craftsmanship, heritage and aesthetics. Originally used to serve tea and sweets during the ritual of hospitality – a central element of Moroccan culture. Today, they are used for serving, decoration and as wall art, where their delicate engravings reflect light and bring a touch of oriental elegance to modern homes.
