Maintenance
Because the surface is coated with a layer of copper and iron, the jar may feel greasy over time. This will come off when washed with soap and water.
The story behind
What characterizes ceramics from the city of Tamegroute is the deep green color. The glaze of the ceramics gives a beautiful smooth surface with a beautiful play of colors and develops after the first firing at 1000 degrees in a stone kiln. The firing takes 24 hours and the characteristic color develops during the firing with very low oxygen in the kiln. When the kiln is cold, the ceramics are taken out and coated with a mixture of iron and copper, which gives a completely unique, cracked and charming appearance.
Small cracks, fissures and unevenness help to make ceramics from Tamegroute completely unique and special. This firing method/working method is reserved for artisans and is only made artisanally and never industrially.
Tamegroute is located in southern Morocco on the border with the Sahara. In Berber, Tamegroute means: ”the last place before the desert.”
