The story behind
Hand-painted wooden trays from Morocco are unique works of art that combine traditional craftsmanship with colorful Moroccan aesthetics. These trays are made in a small workshop where skilled craftsmen paint each individual piece by hand with great care and precision.
The wood, typically cedar or olive, is first cut and sanded to the desired shape, then the surface is treated to make it smooth and durable. Then the characteristic patterns and colors are applied, reflecting Morocco’s rich cultural heritage. The motifs can range from geometric patterns and arabesques to flowers and symbols, often in strong shades of blue, red, yellow and green – colors that have both aesthetic and symbolic significance in Moroccan art.
Each tray is unique, not only because it is hand-painted, but because the artist is often inspired by his own imagination or local traditions. This makes the trays more than just practical objects – they are little tales from North Africa that bring warmth, life and history into the home.
