This unique vintage Boujaad rug, Atlas Mist, is a true piece of Moroccan craftsmanship filled with soul and history. Woven in the Boujaad region of the Atlas Mountains by skilled Berber women, each small symbol tells its own story of life, love and nature.

The runner is woven in soft, handspun wool with a harmonious color palette of powder pink, dusty lavender, sand and warm saffron yellow. The repeating geometric motifs create a calm rhythm throughout the rug and give it a refined expression that fits beautifully in both modern and classic homes.

The dense, soft pile adds warmth and comfort, while the subdued colors make the runner easy to combine with natural materials, wood, whitewashed walls and Scandinavian interiors.

What makes “Atlas Mist” so special is its subdued and elegant color scheme. Instead of strong contrasts, the pattern is created through subtle shades of pink, lavender and saffron yellow, giving the runner a calm and exclusive expression. It almost functions as a work of art on the floor and adds warmth, texture and personality without taking attention away from the rest of the interior. It is a runner that will fit just as beautifully in a classic mansion apartment as in a modern, Nordic home.

Each vintage Boujaad rug is handwoven and carries slight variations that tell the story of the weaver and make each rug completely unique.

Maintenance of Boujaad carpets

Maintenance of Boujaad carpets

Although Boujaad rugs are robust, their vibrant colors and fine weaving are best preserved with a little extra care:

  1. Vacuuming

    • Vacuum regularly, but use low suction and preferably without a rotating brush.

    • Vacuum both sides a few times a year to remove dust that is deep in the weave.

  2. Venting

    • Air the carpet out a few times a year, preferably in dry, light sunshine – but avoid strong midday sun as the colors may fade.

  3. Stain removal

    • Remove stains immediately. Dab gently with a damp cloth and use mild wool soap if necessary. Avoid rubbing hard.

  4. Professional washing

    • Have the rug professionally cleaned every 3-5 years at a dry cleaner that has experience with handmade wool rugs.

  5. Rotation

    • Turn the carpet a few times a year so that wear and sun fading are distributed evenly.

The story behind Boujaad carpets

The story behind Boujaad carpets

Boujaad carpets originate from Haouz Region in central Morocco, near the town of Boujaad, and is known for some of the most colorful and artistic Berber carpets.

They were traditionally woven by Berber women as part of their dowry – a kind of visual diary, in which the weaver incorporated symbols of love, fertility, protection and the cycle of life. This makes each Boujaad rug unique and full of personal history.

Boujaad carpets are characterized by:

  • Vibrant colors – often in shades of pink, orange, red and blue, created with natural plant dyes.

  • Creative, free patterns – no two rugs are alike. They can be geometric, abstract or almost painterly.

  • Soft and slightly lower pile than Beni Ouarain and Beni Mguild, which gives them a light and flexible expression.

Today, Boujaad rugs are much loved by designers and collectors because they combine bohemian-colorfulness with authentic craftsmanship. They can function both as statement pieces in modern homes and as warm, soulful elements in classic interiors.
